Have You Been Struggling More Lately?

Have you been sad or depressed or struggling to find the motivation to get things done? Are you overwhelmed by thoughts racing through your mind? Do you constantly worry  about what needs to be done next? Maybe you had been holding it together for awhile and now you need a little extra help. Have you struggling more with your mental health? Maybe you have thought about counseling or trying medication management but been worried about how it all works. Have friends or family asked you to consider seeking help? Perhaps you think about problems more often than you used to.

Many People Consider and Try Medication Management

Sometimes it is referred to a psychotropic medication or mental health medication.  You might talk to a prescriber such as a Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP), or Physician Assistant (PA). At this time, our medication management services are provided by a physician assistant. In fact, in 2020 over 16% of people had taken medication for their mental health (National Center for Health Statistics, 2021). As you can see many people have sought help through mental health medication management. Although psychotropic medication is not a quick fix, it can be helpful especially when considered as one piece of plan to get well. Mental health is as important as physical health. Also, it is important to know that not everyone who is struggling needs to take mental health medication and some may only be prescribed medication for a brief period of time. We want you to know that we will be honest with you and give you the best recommendations based on your history, needs, wants, and personal story.

Family and Friends May Not Understand Why You Are Considering Medication Management

Unlike physical ailments, mental health struggles are often misunderstood by the people around you. This may even be the people closest to you. They may tell you to have a stronger will or not to become dependent on medication. They may not understand the struggles that you have. Hopefully, on the other hand, you have people that will hear you out and encourage you to seek the help that you want. We're here to listen to your needs and wants and we will not push to prescribe mental health medication if it is not the best option for you.

Like so many others you just want to understand what's going on and how to gain peace and freedom. In medication management we can help you evaluate these situations and decide with you what is the best plan. There is hope!

Psychiatric Medication Management Is More Than Prescribing Medications

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, "Mental illnesses are common in the United States. Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (52.9 million in 2020)". In today's society and with so many stressors that we now face many people have struggled, and some have experienced trauma, difficult relationships, depression, anxiety, or a number of other mental health struggles. And with so much information being thrown at us through advertising and information on the internet it can be difficult to know how to proceed when considering psychiatric medication management. At LifeWorks Resources we have included the word "resources' because when you look up the definition according to Merriam-Webster it includes phrases such as:

  • "a source of supply or support"
  • "a source of information and expertise"
  • "a possibility of relief or recovery"
  • "an ability to meet and handle a situation"

This is why we say that medication management is more than just prescribing medication. We are here as a support and resource to help you face and be successful in the life you want. We're here as a resource for you.

Mental Health Medication Management Can Help You

There is hope for relief! Psychotropic medication may be the help that you need for symptoms and to help you manage life more effectively.  But we can also help you better understand your symptoms and yourself. According the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), "In some cases, medicines can reduce symptoms so other methods of a treatment plan can be more effective. For example, a medication can ease symptoms of depression like loss of energy and lack of concentration, allowing an individual to engage more in talk therapy" (NAMI, retrieved 2022). In addition to medication management we can help you with counseling services and, when needed, refer you to other services. If you are receiving services, for example with a counselor, you can continue to see that person. We want the services and help that is going to be best for you and your situation.

With treatment you can experience reduced symptoms, increased well-being, and improve your overall life satisfaction.

What To Expect from Medication Management

In medication management at LifeWorks Resources, we will listen to your circumstances and work with you to come up with a plan that is best for you. For some this may mean that medication is not needed yet while, for others, we will work with you to understand the whole picture of your health and wellness to make sure you receive the proper medication. In rare cases we may refer you to a Psychiatrist and, if this is the case, it is because we believe it is the best option for you. We will also work with you so you understand what other services may be helpful for you, if needed. If you are already working with a counselor we can work with you and coordinate care so you can continue to work with your own counselor.

Although there are many different approaches to treatment, we will tailor the approach to you and your unique life and circumstances. In follow up medication management sessions we will celebrate with you in your improvements and work with you to make sure you are taking the right medication and correct dose. We will also work to help you get to the real root causes of your struggles. By doing this you can move beyond learning to manage the day to day, to having true freedom, peace, and greater satisfaction in all areas of your life.

At LifeWorks Resources, we understand the importance of your spiritual faith and beliefs and will include that in our conversations with you as much as you want. By doing so, you can gain insight to how your beliefs impact your choices, thoughts, and emotions. You can learn how your faith can help you without judgement or guilt. We are here to help you with your unique journey. We also respect your choice if you do not want to have these conversations.

You May Have Some Concerns About Medication Management

"I'm not sure about medication and do not want it pushed on me."
We understand that it can be confusing and difficult to know the best option. Talking with someone with expertise and in a supportive non-judgmental environment where you feel accepted and understood, can be very helpful in gaining understanding. We also know that not everyone needs medication and we will be honest and work with you, not against you, to help you find what will work best.

"I'm afraid of becoming dependent or addicted."
We know and understand the concern of addiction for those who have been through it and for those that have never experienced it. We are cautious and work to minimize the risk and in many cases there may be some medications that we will not prescribe. In those cases we will work with you to find a Psychiatrist or other referrals if needed. We want to work with you in ways that will be helpful and take your concerns to heart.

"What about insurance?"
We believe that helping people of all walks of life have access to mental health care is important and, in most cases, are in-network with insurance including TNCare. Be sure to let us know and we can work with you to know exactly what your copay or deductible might be. We can also work with you if you prefer to self-pay.
